As Buganda Kingdom prepares to celebrate the 33rd Coronation Anniversary of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, residents of Ssingo County have intensified community service activities aimed at promoting cleanliness, improving public health and demonstrating their loyalty to the Kingdom.
The exercise, held in Ssabagabo Sub-county, Ssekanyonyi, brought together Kingdom officials, local leaders, members of the CBS Pewosa Association, health workers and residents who participated in various activities under the Kingdom’s Bulungi Bwansi initiative.
Participants cleaned Ssekanyonyi Town, cleared drainage channels along roads, cleaned markets, the premises of Ssekanyonyi Health Centre IV and the nearby police station. They also donated essential items, including soap and sugar, to mothers admitted at the health facility in support of vulnerable members of the community.
Speaking during the exercise, Barnabas Ssenabulya, the Gombolola Chief of Ssabagabo Ssekanyonyi, urged residents to make cleanliness a daily responsibility rather than a one-off activity.
“A clean environment is the foundation of a healthy community. Every resident has a responsibility to maintain sanitation, not only during the Kabaka’s celebrations but throughout the year,” Ssenabulya said.
He also congratulated Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II upon reaching his 33rd coronation anniversary and praised his continued leadership in promoting community development across Buganda.
Grace Nantege, the Chairperson of CBS Pewosa in Ssingo County, commended the Kabaka for prioritising the welfare of women and families through programmes that promote better healthcare and community support.
“The Kabaka has continued to demonstrate that development begins with healthy families. Supporting mothers and promoting community health is one of the greatest investments we can make,” Nantege said.
Residents who participated in the exercise also applauded the Kingdom’s development initiatives, saying they have empowered young people, promoted discipline, improved healthcare services and supported the establishment of nursery schools under Buganda’s administrative structures.
“The Kingdom’s programmes have inspired many young people to become responsible citizens while bringing essential services closer to communities,” one resident said.
The Medical Superintendent of Ssekanyonyi Health Centre IV, Dr. Yawe John, welcomed the donation and thanked the Kingdom for supporting patients, particularly expectant and new mothers receiving treatment at the facility.
“These acts of kindness give hope to our patients and strengthen the partnership between cultural institutions and public health facilities in improving community wellbeing,” Dr. Yawe said.
The Bulungi Bwansi campaign is one of Buganda Kingdom’s flagship community development programmes and forms part of the annual activities marking the Kabaka’s Coronation Anniversary. The initiative encourages residents to participate in voluntary service, environmental conservation, sanitation improvement and support for vulnerable groups across the Kingdom.
