Speaking at the State of the Digital Economy (SODE 2026), Torach said Uganda has an opportunity to shape its own AI future by supporting local innovators and helping businesses understand how to begin adopting artificial intelligence.
His remarks build on a central theme that has emerged throughout SODE 2026—that the country's digital transformation must go beyond expanding connectivity to creating local innovation, skilled talent and technologies that generate economic value.
"Our company is homegrown and helps Ugandans appreciate where to start from," Torach said.
Vision Africa AI positions itself as Africa's pioneering hub for ethical, impact-driven and locally relevant artificial intelligence, supporting organisations and innovators to adopt AI solutions that respond to the continent's unique social and economic needs.
Torach said locally developed technologies are essential if Uganda is to become an active participant in the AI economy rather than simply a consumer of innovations developed elsewhere.
His message echoes earlier discussions at the conference, where speakers argued that Africa's greatest competitive advantage in artificial intelligence lies in investing in people, practical skills and innovation ecosystems capable of producing homegrown solutions.
The conference has also highlighted the need for stronger digital infrastructure, trusted digital platforms and supportive government policies to enable innovation and accelerate technology-driven growth.
By promoting ethical and locally relevant AI, Vision Africa AI aims to help businesses, institutions and entrepreneurs identify practical entry points for adopting artificial intelligence while ensuring the technology responds to local priorities.
As SODE 2026 has demonstrated, Uganda's digital future will depend not only on access to emerging technologies but also on the country's ability to develop its own innovations, build local expertise and create artificial intelligence solutions that address African challenges while competing in the global digital economy.
