Vice President Jessica Alupo has paid tribute to former Second Deputy Prime Minister Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, describing him as a dedicated nationalist whose decades of service contributed to Uganda’s political, social and economic development.
Gen. Moses Ali, 87, died on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala, where he had been receiving treatment following a period of ill health.
The veteran politician and military officer was accorded an official burial by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in recognition of his long service to the country.
Speaking during a parliamentary tribute session held in honour of the late General, Alupo described him as a freedom fighter, mentor and public servant who influenced many leaders, including herself.
"In his service as a politician, Gen. Moses Ali mentored many, including myself. He was a freedom fighter and such a humorous person, and you would not miss his message when he communicated," Alupo said.
Alupo, who is also the Katakwi District Woman Member of Parliament, conveyed condolences to President Museveni, Parliament, the Muslim community, the people of Adjumani and the entire country following the death of Gen. Moses Ali.
She said Gen. Moses Ali’s contribution extended across various sectors, including politics, culture, religion, education and sports.
The Vice President also highlighted his role as a farmer, saying his involvement in commercial agriculture demonstrated the importance of investing in sectors such as agriculture, industry, services and information and communication technology (ICT) as pathways for economic transformation.
She described Gen. Moses Ali as a disciplined military officer who understood the responsibilities of leadership and public service.
"He was a timekeeper and surely we shall miss him in Cabinet," Alupo said.
The Vice President further recognised Gen. Moses Ali’s efforts in promoting education among Muslim girls, saying he encouraged young girls to remain in school and complete their education.
"He was the voice of young Muslim girls. He encouraged them to go to school and complete the school cycle," she said.
Gen. Moses Ali will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Adjumani District.
