LC1, Women Council Nominations Begin Across Ntungamo District
Aspiring candidates turned up in large numbers at sub-county headquarters across Ntungamo District as the five-day nomination exercise for Local Council I and Women Council Committee elections officially got underway.

The nomination of candidates seeking election as Local Council I (LC1) chairpersons and Women Council Committee members has begun across Ntungamo District, with aspiring leaders turning up at sub-county headquarters to be cleared for the grassroots elections.

The five-day exercise, which runs from July 15 to 19, marks the official start of the electoral process ahead of the grassroots polls.

Ntungamo District Returning Officer Honest Baguma said the exercise started smoothly, with a large number of aspirants seeking nomination for various positions.

"The exercise has started successfully and people interested in offices have turned up in large numbers. Those we didn't work on, we pushed them to tomorrow. We will continue with the exercise until the 19th. Campaigns will start later after the nomination exercise for those who have been successfully nominated," Baguma said.

Among those seeking election is Deus Karuhanga, who is contesting for the LC1 chairperson seat in Kabingo Cell, Eastern Division. He said he joined the race to tackle pressing community challenges.

"I contested at cell level because of the challenges at our cell regarding water, poor sanitation and poor roads," Karuhanga said.

Nicholas Sentongo, an LC1 aspirant for Park Ward II, said residents encouraged him to contest because of his contribution to community development and their confidence in his leadership.

"People have pushed me to stand so that I can extend government services to them with transparency," Sentongo said.

The Electoral Commission is expected to conduct the grassroots elections after the completion of the nomination and campaign periods.
