The Rotary Club of Kampala Muyenga Breeze has ushered in a new chapter of leadership with the installation of Rotarian Joshua Gavin Wanume as its 14th president during a colourful ceremony held at Naguru Gardens.
The event brought together Rotarians, Rotaractors, development partners, corporate leaders, government officials and friends of Rotary to celebrate leadership, fellowship and the club's continued commitment to community service. The ceremony was graced by Rotary Past District Governor Francisco Ssemwanga, alongside other distinguished guests.
The installation marked the beginning of a new Rotary year while reflecting on the club's achievements under the leadership of outgoing president Rogers Mukalazi, whose tenure saw the successful implementation of 24 community service projects.
The initiatives focused on key areas including healthcare, education, environmental conservation, maternal and child health, and youth empowerment. One of the club's most significant achievements during the year was securing a global grant and supporting life-changing surgeries for children living with hydrocephalus and spina bifida through its long-standing partnership with CURE Children's Hospital.
In his acceptance speech, Wanume pledged to build on the strong foundation established by previous leaders, reaffirming the club's commitment to Rotary's guiding principle of "Service Above Self."
"We engage for impact because we want to see lives transformed. Together, we will continue creating sustainable solutions that uplift communities and inspire hope," Wanume said.
Delivering the keynote address, Past District Governor Francisco Ssemwanga challenged members to remain steadfast in Rotary's humanitarian mission, urging them to invest even more resources in projects that deliver lasting and measurable impact in communities.
He commended the club for its continued focus on improving lives through partnerships and encouraged Rotarians to strengthen collaboration with development partners, volunteers and local communities.
The installation ceremony also recognised the collective contribution of Rotary clubs, Rotaract clubs, corporate partners and volunteers who have supported initiatives in healthcare, education, environmental sustainability and community development over the past year.
Members reaffirmed their commitment to expanding the club's flagship projects, including annual fundraising initiatives that finance specialised surgeries for vulnerable children and other interventions aimed at addressing pressing community needs.
The evening concluded with the ceremonial handover of leadership, recognition of members for outstanding service, and a renewed pledge to continue transforming lives through volunteerism, strategic partnerships and sustainable community development.
With a new leadership team now in place, the Rotary Club of Kampala Muyenga Breeze is set to build on its legacy of service as it embarks on another year dedicated to creating lasting impact in communities across Uganda.
