Fourteen people have been confirmed dead and 28 others injured following a fatal road crash involving an Isuzu bus and a trailer along the Kampala–Gulu Highway.

The crash according to Traffic Police spokespersonm Michael Kananura, occurred on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at about 9:34pm at Bobi Trading Centre, when an Isuzu bus registration number UBE 110H, belonging to OPIT Travellers Company, collided head-on with a Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer registration number KBS 564D/ZE 7948.

"Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the bus who was allegedly speeding attempted to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with the oncoming trailer," Kananura said.

He said investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, while warning motorists against reckless driving, especially at night.

“We continue to urge all motorists to observe speed limits, particularly during night hours when visibility is reduced. Drivers must remain alert, anticipate the movement of pedestrians in trading centres and always maintain speeds that allow them to stop safely,” Kananura said.

The injured victims were rushed to different health facilities for medical attention, while police teams responded to the scene to manage the situation and begin investigations.

Police said further details will be released as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
