The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has joined the Muslim community in mourning the death of Sheikh Harunah Emuge, the former Kumi District Kadhi, who died in a road accident on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
According to UMSC, Sheikh Emuge died after he was knocked down by a speeding vehicle along the Mbale–Soroti Highway in Mbale City.
In a condolence message issued on behalf of the UMSC fraternity, the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, described Sheikh Emuge's death as a great loss to the Muslim community, praising him as a dedicated servant of Islam and a committed advocate of Da'wah across the Eastern and North Eastern Muslim regions.
"Sheikh Harunah Emuge was a very pious, humble and loyal leader who was passionate about seeing the Islamic faith flourish. He personally donated a piece of land on which a community mosque and a school were established," Mufti Mubaje said.
The Mufti said Sheikh Emuge devoted his life to serving Islam and uplifting Muslim communities through religious leadership and community development initiatives.
At the time of his death, Sheikh Emuge was serving as a member of the UMSC Shuurah (Advisory) Council of retired leaders and elders, where he continued to provide guidance and counsel to the organisation.
Mufti Mubaje prayed for the deceased, asking Allah to grant Sheikh Emuge Jannatul Firdaus and to comfort his family during the period of mourning.
"We pray that Allah grants him Jannatul Firdaus and blesses his family with patience, unity and strength as they come to terms with this painful loss," he said.
Sheikh Emuge is remembered for his commitment to the growth of Islam, his humility and his contribution to Muslim education and worship through the establishment of community institutions.
