Christians have been urged to remain steadfast in carrying their individual crosses through the challenges they face and to focus on purifying their hearts rather than concentrating solely on outward appearances.

The message was delivered during Holy Mass at St Mary's Cathedral Lubaga, presided over by Cathedral Administrator Achileo Mayanja.

In his homily, Deacon Edrine Kangave called on Christians to faithfully embrace the difficulties they encounter in their daily lives and remain firm in their faith despite hardships.

“Christians should be willing to carry their crosses in every situation they go through and remain faithful to God,” Deacon Kangave said.

He encouraged believers to cultivate a spirit of love, repentance and self-examination, emphasizing that true spiritual renewal begins within the heart.

“It is important to cleanse our hearts and reflect on our actions rather than concentrating only on outward appearances,” he said.

Deacon Kangave also cautioned Christians against lifestyles and actions that distance them from God, urging them to remain committed to their faith and relationship with Him.

“Some people have drifted away from God through their way of life. We should do everything possible to remain close to Him,” he added.

As the country prepares to celebrate Father's Day, the deacon congratulated fathers and encouraged them not to lose hope in the face of challenges.

“Fathers should not be afraid of the difficulties they encounter but continue trusting in God,” he said.

Several faithful who attended the Mass welcomed the message, describing it as timely and relevant. They called on Ugandans to put the teachings into practice in their daily lives.

Deacon Kangave is among those expected to be ordained to the priesthood in August 2026.
