Ugandan youth leader and social entrepreneur Denise Ayebare has been named among the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 Class of 2026, joining a select group of young Africans recognized for their innovation, leadership and impact across the continent.
At just 23 years old, Ayebare is the Founder and Executive Director of BetterLife International, a youth-led organization focused on climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, women’s economic empowerment, youth leadership and community development.
According to Forbes Africa, Ayebare started BetterLife International while still a student with an initial investment of just $200, which was used to support the organization’s first community activities, transport and operational needs.
Over the years, the organization has expanded its reach across Africa, supporting refugees, young people and vulnerable communities through programmes focused on climate action, education, sustainable livelihoods and community development.
One of its innovations is the Soilla App, a digital platform designed to help farmers improve soil health and adopt sustainable agricultural practices through technology-driven guidance.
In its citation, Forbes Africa noted that Ayebare’s work stood out for its innovation, entrepreneurial impact and scalability. Selection committee member Dr. Nhlanhla Msomi reportedly awarded her a five-star rating and described her as a top recommendation for the prestigious list.
Beyond her work with BetterLife International, Ayebare serves as Secretary for External Relations at the National Youth Council of Uganda and has represented young people in regional and international forums focusing on climate change, sustainable development and youth participation.
Her recognition reflects the growing influence of a new generation of African leaders who are creating practical solutions to social and environmental challenges while shaping policy and development conversations.
Speaking about the achievement, Ayebare said the recognition represents more than a personal accomplishment.
“This recognition is a reminder that young Africans are not waiting for change to happen; they are building it every day in their communities, institutions and countries.”
She added that the recognition serves as motivation to continue creating opportunities and strengthening communities through youth-led solutions.
“The work continues. This is about using every platform to expand opportunities, strengthen communities and show what is possible when young people are trusted to lead.”
Ayebare’s inclusion comes at a time when Africa’s youthful population is increasingly driving innovation, entrepreneurship and social transformation across the continent.
