The Diocese of Muhabura has signed a Shs1.15 billion contract with Fabrication Systems Uganda Limited for the roofing of its new cathedral, marking a key milestone in the construction of the large worship centre.
The Memorandum of Understanding sets the contract value at Shs1,154,852,478, with works expected to be completed within 52 weeks.
Diocesan Secretary Rev. Stephen Ruzaza described the signing as a significant step forward in the cathedral’s construction, which is designed to accommodate more than 3,000 worshippers.
“This marks the beginning of a crucial phase. We are optimistic the contractor will deliver quality work on schedule,” Ruzaza said.
The Bishop of Muhabura Diocese, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbitse, called on Christians, well-wishers and development partners to support ongoing fundraising efforts for the project.
“The project belongs to the entire Christian community. A hand that gives is a hand that receives,” Bishop Mbitse said, adding that roofing works will commence immediately.
He emphasized that the cathedral will serve as both a spiritual and community landmark for the Diocese once completed.
Representing Fabrication Systems Uganda Limited, Bipin Loharuka assured the Diocese that the company has the technical capacity to complete the works within the stipulated timeframe.
Engineer Benoni Nteziryayo of J&B Technical Services, the main contractor, said the cathedral is set to become one of the largest worship centres in the Kigezi sub-region.
Once completed, the cathedral is expected to accommodate thousands of congregants and serve as a major centre for religious and community activities in the region.
