Residents of Ziwungwe-Nyomero Village in Mpigi District say they have lived in fear for three months due to unexplained disturbances involving flying stones, tampered food, and damaged property, prompting appeals to local leaders and traditional healers for intervention.

Residents of Ziwungwe-Nyomero Village in Mpigi Town Council, Mpigi District, have appealed to local leaders and traditional healers for help over what they describe as mysterious disturbances that have disrupted their daily lives for the past three months.

The residents say they suspect a fellow villager could be behind the incidents, which allegedly include stones being thrown at houses, food being tampered with, and property being damaged under unclear circumstances.

According to the affected residents, the incidents occur frequently, mainly at night, leaving many homes with broken window panes, damaged doors and other property destruction.

“The situation we are living in is very worrying. Stones hit our houses almost every day. They strike roofs, windows and doors, but strangely, nobody sees who throws them,” one resident said.

Others allege that the disturbances extend to food prepared in their homes, claiming that meals are sometimes found contaminated with stones or other foreign objects after cooking.

“You may leave food cooking and later find stones inside the saucepan. Sometimes the food is no longer fit for consumption,” residents said.

Some villagers further claimed that cooking ingredients sometimes disappear briefly, only to be replaced by unknown substances when they return.

The alleged incidents have also affected small businesses in the area. Traders, including chapati makers and grain sellers, say they have suffered losses after discovering contamination in their products.

“You carefully prepare your products, but later find stones or dust mixed in them. Some business owners have abandoned their work because of these incidents,” another resident said.

Parents also expressed concern that school-going children have been affected, with some reportedly fearing to walk to school due to alleged attacks along footpaths.

“Many children no longer want to go to school because they fear being attacked on their way,” a resident said.

Some youths claim they have experienced unexplained exhaustion and unusual conditions upon waking up, including feeling as though they had engaged in physical work during the night without recollection.

“You go to sleep normally, but wake up feeling extremely tired and dirty as if you spent the whole night digging in a garden, yet you cannot explain what happened,” one youth alleged.

Residents said they recently sought help from a traditional healer, who reportedly described the situation as serious and requiring a large-scale intervention involving multiple people.

They added that the healer requested Shs8 million to conduct the alleged exercise, a sum the community says is beyond their financial reach.

“The traditional healer told us the matter is complicated and would require many people to deal with it. We were asked to raise Shs8 million, which we simply cannot afford,” residents said.

The community has now appealed to local leaders, including Members of Parliament and district authorities, to intervene and help restore normalcy in the village.

“We appeal to our leaders to come to our rescue. We can no longer live comfortably because of these disturbances,” residents said.

The incidents are said to have persisted for three months, with residents expressing fear that the situation could worsen if no action is taken.
