New Finance Minister Henry Musasizi has vowed to prioritise fiscal discipline, strengthen revenue mobilisation and promote inclusive economic growth as he assumes leadership of Uganda’s economic management team at a time of heightened pressure on public finances and development spending.

Newly sworn-in Finance Minister Henry Musasizi has pledged to uphold fiscal discipline, drive inclusive economic growth and improve livelihoods as he assumes responsibility for Uganda’s economic management amid growing expectations to sustain growth and expand domestic revenue.

In his first public remarks after taking the oath of office, Musasizi thanked President Yoweri Museveni for the appointment and pledged to serve with integrity, accountability and dedication to the public interest.

“I am fully committed to upholding this responsibility with integrity, diligence and dedication to the people of Uganda,” Musasizi said.

He said his immediate focus would be strengthening coordination with government institutions and development stakeholders to advance sound fiscal management and ensure that economic policies translate into tangible improvements in citizens’ welfare.

“I pledge to work tirelessly alongside my colleagues in government and with all stakeholders to advance sound fiscal management, inclusive economic planning, and policies that foster sustainable growth and improve livelihoods across our country,” he said.

Musasizi further emphasised humility and service delivery as guiding principles in his new role, noting that economic leadership must ultimately reflect in improved living standards and shared prosperity.

His appointment places him at the centre of Uganda’s fiscal and economic planning machinery, where he will oversee budget formulation and execution, revenue mobilisation, and coordination of key development priorities under the national development framework.

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development remains one of government’s most influential portfolios, playing a central role in shaping public expenditure, managing debt, and financing infrastructure and social services.
