Independents’ Mayor Balagadde Pledges Unity and Orderly Development in Kayunga

Newly elected Kayunga Town Council mayor Saul Balagadde has officially been sworn into office after winning the mayoral seat on an independent ticket, pledging to unite leaders and residents through dialogue and inclusive leadership.

Balagadde said his administration will focus on transforming the town in line with the physical development plan to ensure organised growth and improved service delivery.

“My leadership will promote unity among all leaders and residents regardless of political affiliation. We shall use dialogue to solve differences and work together for the development of Kayunga Town Council,” Balagadde said shortly after taking oath.

He identified poor garbage management as one of the major challenges affecting the town, noting that waste collection requires substantial financial support and collective responsibility from residents.

“Garbage collection remains a big challenge because it requires a lot of resources, including trucks, fuel and manpower. We are going to engage both government and residents to ensure the town remains clean,” he added.

Balagadde further pledged to improve sanitation, road maintenance and revenue collection while emphasising transparency and accountability in the utilisation of public funds.

The new mayor has served as councillor representing Kayunga Central Ward for the last five years.

Meanwhile, Betty Nasimbwa retained her position as speaker of Kayunga Town Council after narrowly defeating Steven Bazibu in a closely contested vote.

During her first council sitting after re-election, Nasimbwa warned councillors against divisive politics, saying disagreements within council would derail development efforts in Kayunga.

“I call upon you, honourable members of this council, to desist from political discrimination, but rather adopt a universal council,” she said.

Residents and local leaders expressed optimism that the youthful leadership of Balagadde would foster cooperation and accelerate development in the rapidly growing urban centre, which is pushing for municipality status.
