Judith Nabakooba has held a thanksgiving ceremony in Mityana District to appreciate residents for re-electing her as Woman Member of Parliament and to thank God for surviving a recent accident.
The event attracted religious leaders, political figures, supporters, and residents from different parts of the district, with many describing it as both a spiritual thanksgiving gathering and a reflection on Mityana’s political direction following the 2026 general elections.
Addressing the congregation, Nabakooba thanked the people of Mityana for renewing their confidence in her leadership and pledged to continue serving all residents regardless of political affiliation.
“I sincerely thank the people of Mityana for standing with me once again and giving me the opportunity to continue serving them,” Nabakooba said.
“Leadership is about serving everyone equally, and I am committed to ensuring that government programs and services benefit all people without segregation.”
The legislator also expressed gratitude to religious leaders, supporters, and well-wishers who prayed for her recovery after the accident she survived earlier this year.
“I thank God for preserving my life and I appreciate everyone who stood with me during that difficult moment,” she added.
“Your prayers, encouragement, and support gave me strength.”
Nabakooba further called for unity among leaders in the district, arguing that meaningful development can only be achieved when political leaders cooperate despite ideological differences.
“This is the time for leaders to focus on the needs of the people rather than personal disagreements,” she noted.
“When leaders cooperate, communities benefit through improved services and development projects.”
The thanksgiving ceremony also highlighted the National Resistance Movement’s improved performance in Mityana during the 2026 elections.
Political analysts and NRM supporters attending the event observed that the ruling party made notable gains compared to the 2021 electoral cycle, when it suffered significant losses across parliamentary positions in the district.
In the 2026 polls, the NRM regained three of the district’s five parliamentary seats, including the Woman MP position, Mityana South, and Mityana North. The opposition retained Busujju County and Mityana Municipality constituencies.
Several leaders at the gathering described the results as evidence of renewed public confidence in the ruling party and its government programmes.
Nabakooba said the election outcome should motivate leaders to improve service delivery and accountability.
“The trust people have shown us should push us to deliver better services, strengthen accountability, and ensure that development reaches every corner of Mityana,” she said.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for peace, unity, and continued development as newly elected leaders prepare to begin a fresh political term in the district.
