For years, Next Media has proudly flown the largest Ugandan national flag in the world. Raised high above the Nex tMedia Park, it has stood as an evident symbol of love for country, a daily reminder of the four pillars that guide the organisation’s mission: Love Uganda, Explore Uganda, Celebrate Uganda, and Inspire Hope.
The recent installation of a giant Ugandan flag at the UPDF Headquarters in Mbuya has added another powerful national symbol to Kampala’s skyline, reflecting a growing spirit of patriotism and pride in Uganda’s identity.
Situated at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters on Mbuya Hill, the flag now stands prominently above one of the country’s most important national institutions, symbolising the Uganda People’s Defence Forces’ role in protecting the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
For Next Media, the moment carries special significance.
The growing presence of large national flags across major institutions reflects a wider movement of organisations openly celebrating Uganda, its people, and its future.
“When other institutions make the same choice, especially an institution whose entire mandate is to defend this country, it means something,” says Next Media Group CEO Kin Kariisa. “It says we are not waiting for someone else to celebrate Uganda for us.”
At Next Media, this is seen as a meaningful and inspiring step. Seeing more institutions embrace national symbols in bold and visible ways reflects a shared commitment to celebrating the country and strengthening national pride among citizens.
The flag raised at the UPDF Headquarters also reinforces the importance of unity, service, and national purpose. As the central command hub of the UPDF, Mbuya remains one of Uganda’s most symbolic national sites, making the presence of the flag both timely and significant.
Next Media hopes this gesture inspires more organisations, businesses, and individuals to find their own ways of celebrating Uganda.
It may be through service, innovation, leadership, storytelling, or community impact. The flag simply stands as a powerful reminder of what it means to believe in the country.
As more institutions proudly raise the Ugandan flag, the message becomes even stronger: Uganda is worth celebrating, building, and carrying forward with pride.
Let us all carry Uganda high. Not just on buildings, but in everything we do.
