President Museveni met NRM Parliamentary Caucus at State House, Entebbe, emphasizing budget priorities and the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2025.
The caucus endorsed the Shs84.2 trillion FY 2026/2027 budget, including a Shs200 fuel levy.
"We agreed to prioritize peace and security, roads, electricity, the railway, scientific innovation, preparations for AFCON 2027, restocking in Teso, Lango and Acholi, and salary enhancement for teachers, TVET staff and security personnel," the NRM Caucus statement read.
Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua and State Minister for Finance Henry Musasizi announced the caucus's support. "The caucus agreed to support the budget because of key priorities including peace, stability, roads, AFCON, and salary enhancements," Musasizi said.
Salary enhancements will be phased in over four years, starting with 25% each year. "The enhancements of salaries will be in a four-year phased manner, starting with 25% each year," Musasizi stated.
The budget allocates Shs1.16 trillion for salary enhancements, Shs918 billion for roads, and Shs2.38 trillion for projects like the Jinja-Kampala express highway.
