Entebbe International Airport has recorded a notable increase in both passenger and cargo traffic in February 2026, reflecting continued growth in Uganda’s aviation sector and strengthened global connectivity.
During the month, a total of 189,575 international passengers passed through the airport, including 90,007 arrivals and 99,568 departures—an average of approximately 6,770 travelers per day.
This represents a rise of 39,387 passengers compared to 150,188 in January 2026 and over 30,000 more than the 159,503 recorded in February 2025. The growth highlights rising demand for air travel, driven by tourism, business activities, and the steady return of international movement.
Cargo volumes also showed positive growth, with the airport handling 4,498 metric tonnes in February 2026, including 2,955 tonnes of exports and 1,543 tonnes of imports. This is an increase from 3,982 metric tonnes recorded in January 2026 and marks a year-on-year rise from February 2025 levels.
While February’s figures are strong, they remain below the airport’s highest-ever monthly record of 243,089 passengers set in August 2025, demonstrating the potential for even higher traffic during peak periods.
Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) spokesperson Vianney Luggya attributed the growth to the sustained recovery of the sector and expanding opportunities in aviation.
“We are encouraged by the steady increase in both passenger and cargo numbers, which points to growing confidence in air travel and Uganda’s position as a regional hub,” Luggya said. “The continued rise in exports and imports through Entebbe also reflects the resilience of our economy and the critical role aviation plays in facilitating trade.”
He cautioned, however, that emerging global challenges could affect future performance.
“Recent disruptions in parts of Middle East airspace have affected some operators, and while operations are gradually resuming, we anticipate that traffic for March 2026 may be slightly lower as airlines adjust their schedules,” he noted.
Despite these challenges, February’s performance underscores Entebbe International Airport’s role as a key gateway for travel and commerce, with strong prospects for sustained growth in the months ahead.
