The district leadership and security agencies in Kiruhura are joining forces to address pressing security issues affecting residents, including cattle theft, agricultural produce theft, land disputes, and domestic violence.
This follows a comprehensive security meeting held in the district, attended by local MP Wilson Kajwengye and Uganda Police's Ubaldo Bamunoba.
"Cattle theft, theft of agricultural produce, land disputes, domestic violence, and other petty crimes continue to undermine the livelihoods of residents," the meeting noted.
Bamunoba commended the district leadership for their cooperation with the Uganda Police Force, saying, "Community participation remains a key pillar in preventing and responding to criminal activities at the local level."
Practical measures agreed upon include cracking down on illegal meat sales, enforcing livestock movement permits, and registering herdsmen.
Security agencies will conduct snap checks and joint patrols with village vigilantes and veterans to curb crime.
Bamunoba urged police officers to strengthen grassroots policing, saying, "The sub-county policing model will enhance security coordination and support monitoring of government development programmes." The meeting aimed to protect residents' livelihoods and boost economic stability in the district.
