UEDCL Reassures of Uninterrupted Power Service During Elections

The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has dismissed a social media notice claiming that electricity and internet services would be disrupted during the upcoming elections, assuring the public that both services will remain fully operational.

Jonan Kiiza, UEDCL spokesperson, told Nile Post that the notice was not issued by the company and does not reflect official communications.

“For starters, we want to categorically state that this notice is not ours and does not resemble any of the notices we regularly publish for our consumers,” Kiiza said.

He added that prepaid electricity vending platforms, which rely on internet connectivity, will continue to function throughout the electoral period.

“We want to give public assurance that the Uganda Communications Commission, which oversees telecommunication and internet services, has confirmed that the internet will remain on. We are not anticipating our systems to face any challenges as a result of the forthcoming government activities,” Kiiza explained.

UEDCL urged consumers to ignore the false notice and continue purchasing electricity units through official channels, reassuring the public that essential services will operate without interruption during the elections.
