Police in the Mount Moroto region have assured the public of their readiness to maintain law and order during the forthcoming elections following the pass-out of 1,296 election police constables.

The officers completed a rigorous 10-day training programme designed to equip them with skills in election policing, crowd control and public order management.

Speaking at the pass-out ceremony, the Regional Police Commander for Mount Moroto, SSP Edirisa Kyeyune, said the officers are now adequately prepared to carry out their duties professionally and responsibly.

“These officers have acquired the necessary skills, and I expect them to apply what they have learned effectively and professionally while on duty,” Kyeyune said.

The Karamoja Election Zonal Commander, ACP Francis Chemusto, who was represented by the Administrative Officer of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), said the training placed strong emphasis on ethics and discipline, which are critical during the electoral period.

“Ethics are now a central pillar of police work, especially during elections, and the officers have been well grounded in this area,” he said.

Police leadership reaffirmed their commitment to impartial and professional policing to ensure peaceful, free and fair elections across the Karamoja sub-region.
