A district driver in Nakasongola has died following a single-vehicle accident along the Kampala–Gulu Highway in the early hours of Tuesday, Police have confirmed.
The crash also claimed the life of a 30-year-old woman and left four other occupants seriously injured.
The accident occurred at around 3:30 a.m. when a silver Toyota Hilux, registration number LG 0072087, owned by Nakasongola District Local Government, was traveling from Nakasongola town towards Wabigalo Trading Centre.
The vehicle reportedly sped, failed to negotiate a corner, veered off the road, hit a building fence, and overturned.
The deceased have been identified as Ivan Mwebaza, 32, a district driver, and Stella, 30.
Four others sustained serious injuries: Rogers Orech, 31; Joshua Mugabi, 31; Daphin, 24; and Faridah Mukanambala, 34.
ASP Sam Twiineamazima, Savannah Region Police spokesperson, said the bodies were taken to Nakasongola Health Centre IV mortuary pending post-mortem examinations, while the injured were admitted to the same facility for treatment.
The wrecked vehicle has been towed to Nakasongola Police Station for inspection as investigations continue.
Police have urged motorists to observe speed limits and drive cautiously, especially during the festive season, to prevent road accidents.
