The Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among, has urged former Kitagwenda County MP Dr. Agaba Abbas Mugisha to withdraw from the 2026 parliamentary race and rally behind the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, Robert Mugabe.
She made the appeal on Saturday while addressing a campaign rally for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at Kayombo Primary School grounds in Kitagwenda Town Council.
Addressing the crowd, Speaker Among informed President Museveni that Dr Agaba currently serves on the Kitagwenda District NRM Executive Committee, and therefore should not contest against the party’s duly elected flag bearer.
“Dr Agaba is a member of the District Executive Committee of the NRM, serving as Secretary for Finance in charge of entrepreneurship. As a party leader, I am appealing to him to step down and give our flag bearer, Robert Mugabe, a clear way to represent the NRM,” she said.
Her remarks were greeted with loud applause, reflecting the crowd’s approval. Among further encouraged independent-leaning aspirants to respect party decisions and support NRM candidates ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“I want to appeal to all those intending to stand as independents to respect party decisions, support our flag bearers, and work together to deliver victory for the NRM and President Museveni,” she added.
Dr. Agaba previously represented Kitagwenda County (2016–2021) before losing to the incumbent MP, Joseph Nulu Byamukama.
In the recent NRM primaries, he lost the party flag to Robert Mugabe, the former interim District Chairperson of Kitagwenda District.
Dr. Agaba currently serves as Secretary General of the Afro-Arab Youth Council.
