Uneb Human Resources Director Sabastian Ngobi Dies
Long-serving education administrator Sabastian Ngobi, who previously held senior positions at Makerere University and headed Ruiru High School in Kenya, has died, according to a tribute by Professor Oweyegha Afunaduula.

 

The Director of Human Resources and Technology at the Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb), Sabastian Ngobi, has died, Professor Fred Charles Oweyegha Afunaduula announced in a public message on Facebook.

Afunaduula,  retired professor of zoology from Makerere University, said he learned of Ngobi’s death “with deep sorrow,” describing him as a longtime friend, colleague and “an important gift from God” to his family.

The two first met in 1972 when they joined the University of Dar es Salaam for their undergraduate studies.

Ngobi held a long career in education administration in both Uganda and Kenya. According to Afunaduula, he served as Headteacher of Ruiru High School in Kenya, Academic Registrar of Makerere University, and Director of Human Resources at Makerere University before taking up his role at UNEB.

Afunaduula recounted that Ngobi became deeply connected to his family over the decades, noting that some of his children were born in Ngobi’s home in Kenya.

He said Ngobi also stood with him during significant health challenges, including cataract surgery at Mengo Eye Clinic and, more recently, prostate surgery.

He added that Ngobi was the chief guest at his wedding to Jane Tibenda in 2016 at Bulawa Church in Nawaka, Ikumbya Subcounty, Luuka.

“My family and I have lost an important gift from God,” Afunaduula said, while extending condolences to Ngobi’s family and to the Executive Director and staff of Uneb.

Further details about the cause of death and funeral arrangements were not immediately available.
