Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential candidate, Gregory Mugisha Muntu , has said his mission is to restore hope in Uganda’s political landscape and champion “the change you can trust,” a message he says resonates with citizens frustrated by the current state of leadership.
Speaking during a campaign engagement in Adjumani Town, Muntu said many Ugandans have lost faith in politics because it has increasingly become a space dominated by individuals driven by personal gain rather than public service.
“Out of every ten politicians in Uganda, seven or eight are in politics for self-advancement,” Muntu said.
“Very few are willing to fight tooth and nail to lift people out of poverty.”
He noted that Uganda’s challenge is not a lack of capable and honest people, but a widespread perception that politics is a “dirty game,” which discourages credible Ugandans from seeking leadership roles.
“Honest people are not entering politics because society has made them believe politics is a dirty arena,” he said. “But if good people keep out, bad leadership will continue to flourish.”
Gen. Muntu also criticised a growing trend where aspiring leaders feel compelled to accumulate wealth—often through questionable means—before joining politics. He said this mindset fuels corruption and normalises the misuse of public resources.
“People who want to contest for political office must restrain themselves from stealing public resources before joining politics,” he cautioned.
“In Uganda today, if a leader does not steal after joining politics, society labels them an idiot. That mentality is dangerous and must change.”
He said Uganda can only move forward if citizens elect leaders with integrity, discipline and a genuine commitment to public service, not those who see politics as a gateway to personal enrichment.
Muntu added that his government would prioritise addressing youth unemployment, reviving cooperative societies, and establishing agricultural banks across the country to offer affordable loans to farmers.
He addressed four separate rallies across Adjumani District, and is expected to cross to the neighbouring Moyo District to continue with his campaign trail.
