Nina Rose, the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate contesting for Ssembabule Woman MP, has accused former Minister of Foreign Affairs Sam Kutesa of using money and political influence to undermine opposition activities in the district.

She alleges voter bribery, youth manipulation and obstruction of access to certain campaign areas.

In a statement, Nina Rose claimed that Kutesa is “using money to buy off the youth, bribe leaders, and block our access to certain areas.”

She said the alleged actions are aimed at weakening the opposition’s mobilization but vowed to continue campaigning.

“They want to silence us, divide us, and discourage us. But we remain unshaken,” she said, describing her campaign as rooted in sacrifice and resilience rather than personal ambition.

“I stand with the people of Ssembabule not because of appearance, fame, or popularity, but because my commitment to them is real, grounded, and undivided. Power belongs to the people and the people are rising.”

The allegations have not been independently verified, and Kutesa has not publicly responded. The Electoral Commission has previously cautioned candidates against voter bribery and interference with rival campaigns, warning that such practices violate election laws.

Ssembabule has long been a politically contentious district, with past elections drawing complaints about local influence and restricted campaign access.
