The Structured Imams and Amirants Assembly Uganda has launched a nationwide digital skills drive aimed at empowering children with computer literacy and practical technological knowledge.
The two-week programme, which commenced today, will target learners from various regions as schools continue their holiday break.
Speaking at the launch held at Masjid Jamia in Kawempe Ttula, host Imam Sheikh Kasawuli Saidi said the institution has long championed community-focused skills training through courses such as cookery and tailoring.
He noted that introducing digital learning was a natural expansion of their mission.
“We have several practical courses such as cookery, tailoring and many others that help our community. This new digital training is another step towards empowering our children,” Sheikh Kasawuli said.
He emphasised that the initiative is open to everyone and carries no political agenda.
“This training is not political at all. Every community member should feel free to come and benefit from it,” he added.
Sheikh Kasawuli encouraged holidaying children to take full advantage of the opportunity, saying the sessions will introduce them to computers and other smart tools that are increasingly vital in modern life.
He also thanked the government for supporting community-based technology initiatives and appealed for continued assistance, particularly through the provision of more computers to expand access.
Local leaders endorsed the programme. Kawempe Ward leader Muzamiru Ssemwanje described the training as a timely boost for community development.
“Education is powerful and it requires no single coin to attend this training. Everyone deserves a chance to learn these skills,” he said.
Several residents welcomed the project, expressing appreciation for government-backed initiatives that uplift young people.
They urged parents and guardians to bring their children to participate, stressing that the programme is purely educational.
Teachers supporting the digital skills drive encouraged learners to embrace the opportunity and remain committed throughout the training.
The programme was officially opened by Sheikh Ssemwanje Muzamiru, who underscored its importance in preparing children for a fast-changing technological world.
