The activity, led jointly by Bukasa Village Chairperson John Kaddu and a technical team from the railway department, involves clearing and mapping the proposed route stretching from Bukasa–Bweyogerere to the Bukasa landing site.

Surveyors have been moving from plot to plot, placing mark-posts to indicate the exact path the railway line will follow.

Tensions emerged when resident Nancy Nuwagira confronted officials after discovering her land being marked without what she considered adequate prior notice.

She demanded explanations, accusing the village leadership of failing to inform her about project developments.

Chairperson Kaddu clarified that Nuwagira had missed a community meeting where project details were discussed.

He reassured her and other residents that the current activity was solely boundary identification and not land acquisition.

“This is only the first stage,” Kaddu emphasized. “A valuation team will come later to assess all properties affected so that rightful compensation can be determined.”

The proposed railway line will cut across several villages, including Masozi, China, and Kizoga 4 Zone.

While many residents observed the ongoing work with curiosity and cautious optimism, others expressed lingering distrust, citing previous instances where people displaced by the Bukasa landing site project reportedly never received compensation.

Despite these concerns, the survey team continued its work under close watch from villagers, marking each section in preparation for the next phases of the government infrastructure project.

The railway development is expected to improve connectivity and stimulate economic activity in the area, though community members insist that transparency and fair compensation remain central as the project progresses.
