The Judiciary has formally handed over the site for the construction of the Mukono High Court Annex Block, marking a major step toward resolving longstanding space limitations at the station.
Once complete, the annex will greatly expand capacity with modern facilities including two additional court halls, three self-contained judges’ chambers, a litigant waiting area, holding cells, a child-friendly space, and several administrative offices.
The expansion is expected to enhance efficiency, reduce congestion, and improve the overall experience of court users.
The handover event was witnessed by Lady Justice Mwonda Jacqueline, Lady Justice Mary Kisakye Kaitesi, Deputy Registrar Ntalo Nasulu Hussein, Eng. Priscilla Nakiboneka, Contract Manager Mpyangu Samuel Natude, and representatives of the contracting firm led by Tonny Kalyesubura.
Eng. Nakiboneka, the Acting Commissioner of Engineering and Technical Services, announced that the construction will take one year.
She said the project will be closely supervised by the Regional Engineer and a clerk of works to ensure proper on-site monitoring and adherence to technical standards.
The two Judges welcomed the development, describing it as crucial to easing congestion at the High Court.
They praised the Judiciary for prioritising infrastructure improvement and pledged full cooperation during implementation.
They also urged the contractor, Kalu General Services, to maintain high-quality standards.
Deputy Registrar Ntalo said the project is a timely intervention that will significantly relieve the station’s current space pressures.
Representatives of Kalu General Services expressed readiness to deliver the project in accordance with approved designs and committed to completing the annex within the agreed timeframe.
The Mukono High Court Annex project highlights the Judiciary’s broader efforts to strengthen infrastructure, improve working conditions, and enhance access to justice nationwide.
