Museveni’s Directive: Kabale Groups Empowered with Over Shs 150 Million

Senior Presidential Advisor on Agriculture, Peace Rugambwa, has delivered more than Shs 150 million to various community groups across Kabale, fulfilling President Yoweri Museveni’s directive to support Ugandans who lack start-up capital.

Speaking during the outreach, Rugambwa, who also chairs the Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundire Group, emphasized that the President had specifically sent her to empower “the common person.”

She noted that some government representatives often fail to fully deliver services on the ground, making direct interventions crucial for grassroots support.

During her visit, Rugambwa extended financial assistance to several registered groups in Kabale Municipality. Among the beneficiaries were the Owino Market Vendors, who received Shs 50 million; Boda Boda riders, who were given Shs 20 million; and the Ghetto Youth, who were allocated Shs 15 million.

Additionally, Tomato Traders and Fresh Foods Traders each received Shs 10 million, while Central Market Matooke and Cassava Traders were supported with Shs 10 million. Car Wash Operators also benefited, receiving Shs 5 million. Other community groups were supported as well, bringing the total funds disbursed to over Shs 150 million.

Rugambwa clarified that the funds were deposited directly into the accounts of verified associations. Groups that had completed registration received cash to address immediate business needs. She urged all beneficiaries to invest the money wisely, grow their enterprises, and improve household incomes.

She also warned communities against forming “briefcase groups” solely to access funds, stressing the importance of organizing genuine associations. Rugambwa assured that support would continue to reach all deserving groups across Kabale.

The financial assistance is initially interest-free for approximately four months, after which a minimal fee—such as Shs 10,000 for every Shs 1 million borrowed—will be introduced to sustain the revolving fund.

Beyond supporting traders, Rugambwa has also been reaching out to vulnerable families in Kabale, providing essentials such as mattresses and blankets. Residents have praised these efforts, saying they have restored confidence in government-led initiatives.

“I will continue touching people’s lives. That is the mission the President has given me,” Rugambwa said, reiterating her commitment to ensuring that President Museveni’s efforts reach the grassroots.
