Nakuya Pledges Mass Garbage Awareness Drive in Bid for Kampala Central Seat

Kampala Central Parliamentary aspirant Aidah Nakuya has pledged to lead a comprehensive community sensitisation campaign on garbage disposal and recycling, citing waste management as one of the constituency’s most pressing challenges.

She says sustainable environmental change begins with behaviour shifts at the grassroots level.

A former youth councillor, Nakuya highlighted her experience in mobilising communities and said her deep roots in Kampala Central position her well to tackle the city’s waste crisis.

She noted that the Democratic Forum (DF) recruits candidates with proven capacity and local connections, qualities she believes she exemplifies.

“DF is recruiting people who are material and have the capacity to canvass for votes in their area. All the people in Kampala Central know me and my capacity, and what I did as a youth councillor,” Nakuya said.

She vowed that, if elected, she would personally spearhead campaigns to educate residents on proper waste handling and the importance of recycling, arguing that civic participation is essential alongside KCCA’s logistical efforts.

“I will take it upon myself as MP to sensitise the people on garbage disposal and recycling,” she said, noting that the city’s garbage challenges persist due to limited awareness and insufficient civic engagement.

Nakuya emphasized that environmental cleanliness, drainage maintenance, and recycling initiatives can only succeed when leaders actively collaborate with communities.

With the Kampala Central race intensifying ahead of the 2026 General Election, she is presenting herself as a candidate focused on practical, grassroots solutions to everyday urban problems.
