Parents Urged to Register Children for Learners Identification Numbers

The Hoima City National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) Registrar, Evelyn Oliver Kiiza, has urged parents to take their children to the nearest registration centres to obtain the Learners Identification Number (LIN), stressing its growing importance in accessing services in the future.

Kiiza made the call while updating residents of Hoima City on the status of National ID renewals. She revealed that thousands of renewed cards have been returned and are ready for collection.

“Over 80,000 cards are ready for pick-up across Hoima City and the district. For Hoima City alone, we have so far 45,000 ready. Those who renewed from Hoima should come to the public library and collect them. These cover the months of May, June, and early July,” Kiiza said.

She cautioned the public against individuals who solicit money during collection of IDs.

“Renewal was a free exercise, and even picking up your National ID is free. If anyone asks for money, quietly report them to us and we shall handle the matter,” she warned.

Kiiza advised applicants to present their original documents or a police letter to facilitate processing.

She further encouraged parents to prioritize registering their children for the LIN.
