The Judiciary has held its second preparatory meeting ahead of the forthcoming National Court Open Day, scheduled for December 15, 2025, at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, under the theme “Enhancing Judicial Accountability and Access to Justice.”
The meeting, chaired by Acting Chief Registrar Lamunu Pamella Ocaya on behalf of the Principal Judge, and co-chaired by Registrar High Court Prossy Katushabe, focused on strengthening coordination among participating courts to ensure the success of the annual event.
In her opening remarks, Ocaya emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration, urging all court divisions and circuits to work together in planning and execution. She noted that the Open Day serves as a vital platform for the Judiciary to interact with the public, promote transparency, and enhance access to justice.
“We must ensure collective coordination and mutual support across all divisions and circuits to deliver a well-organized and impactful Open Day,” Ocaya said.
During the session, Registrar Planning, Research and Development John Paul Edoku presented the proposed budget estimates, programme details, and logistical adjustments for the event.
He also guided discussions on the participation of the Wakiso, Entebbe, and Lugazi High Court Circuits, following the recent transfer of cases from Kampala jurisdictions, to ensure that litigants receive accurate and timely information during the Open Day.
Participants further resolved that each court should identify and engage key justice stakeholders who regularly interface with their jurisdictions—such as law enforcement agencies, legal aid providers, and civil society organizations—to promote inclusivity and meaningful public participation.
All suggestions and recommendations from the meeting will be compiled and forwarded to the Registrar Planning, Research and Development for submission to the Principal Judge for approval.
The committee also underscored the need to intensify publicity and awareness campaigns across various media platforms to mobilize the public and sensitize court users about the purpose and benefits of the Open Day.
