The Minister for Luweero-Rwenzori Affairs, Alice Kaboyo, has confirmed the resumption of Akasiimo payments to verified civilian veterans, saying government remains committed to improving the welfare of those who supported the liberation struggle.
Speaking during a meeting with Civilian Veteran Sub-county Chairpersons at Parliament’s Conference Hall A, Kaboyo said the new payment framework is designed to ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness in the distribution of funds.
“The Akasiimo funds for 2024 have been disbursed to verified beneficiaries in Nakaseke, Luweero, and Nakasongola,” Kaboyo said.
“The revised system will make sure that all deserving veterans receive their due benefits without discrimination or delay.”
The discussions also focused on healthcare access, progress reviews, and accountability mechanisms for ongoing programmes under the Ministry of Luwero Triangle and Rwenzori Affairs.
Kaboyo reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening coordination between district structures and the ministry to improve service delivery.
She further emphasized her open-door policy for veterans, saying every Thursday is reserved for direct engagement with them.
“Our office remains open to everyone. Thursdays are specifically reserved for veterans who wish to raise issues or follow up on their concerns,” she noted.
The Sub-county Chairpersons raised several concerns, including delays in verification, limited awareness of entitlements, and the need for enhanced communication between local leaders and the ministry.
The engagement was part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to promote transparency, inclusion, and accountability in programmes benefiting civilian veterans and their families across the Luweero Triangle region.
