The President of the Common Man's Party Mubarak Munyagwa has announced plans to submit a truckload of signatures from 130 districts to the Electoral Commission.
This move is seen as a significant step in the party's efforts to assert its presence in Ugandan politics.
"We are taking a truckload of signatures from 130 districts to the Electoral Commission and we shall see what they say," Munyagwa said in a statement.
The Common Man's Party, led by Munyagwa, a former Kawempe South MP, is positioning itself as a champion of the common man, focusing on issues that affect ordinary Ugandans.
The party's symbol, "Olusaniya," represents equality and sharing, reflecting the party's ideology of promoting unity and fairness. Munyagwa explained that just as food is served equally from a single tray, the party aims to bring people together without discrimination.
The Common Man's Party is set to play a significant role in the 2026 general elections, and its ability to build solid structures, mobilise grassroots support, and present a compelling alternative to dominant political forces will determine its long-term viability.
