Next Media credited for bringing Jane Katushabe’s plight to light, prompting the Rotary Club of Mubende to provide her with urgent bone treatment.

Members of the Rotary Club of Mubende, led by their president Olivier Nakibuule, on Friday, September 19, took Jane Katushabe to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for specialised bone management.

Katushabe had been bedridden for seven months after an accident left her with broken legs, and was reportedly abandoned by her husband.

Speaking to the Nile Post, Nakibuule said the club moved to provide the treatment Katushabe had long been denied.

“We are here as Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Mubende to ensure that this lady gets proper treatment for her bones. We are also ready to cover the bills for orthopaedic tools to help her walk again,” she said.

Nakibuule paid tribute to the Next Media, including NBS Amasengejje news bulletin and the Nile Post online platform, for amplifying the story of Katushabe’s plight.

“We saw her situation and were deeply touched. The story compelled us to act,” she added.

The Rotary Club also thanked the Uganda Police for providing an ambulance that transported Katushabe from her village to the hospital.

“We are grateful to Uganda Police because they too were moved by Katushabe’s situation and offered us an ambulance,” Nakibuule said.

Harriet Nampala, Buwekula Ssaza representative in the Buganda Lukiiko, praised the media for bringing attention to Katushabe’s plight.

“We watched the story on NBS TV Amasengejje and on the Nile Post. We were touched and resolved to provide support,” she said.

Nampala assured that the Rotary Club of Mubende would continue to support Katushabe.

“We are going to provide everything possible to ensure Katushabe gets back on her feet,” she said, adding a cautionary note to men.

“I urge men not to abandon their wives, especially in times of difficulty. Katushabe is now suffering alone with four children, including a newborn.”

Katushabe, overwhelmed by the gesture, expressed gratitude to God and the media.

“I cannot believe that today you have come to take me for bone treatment. I thank God who has enabled you to support me,” she said.

She repeatedly thanked Next Media, adding, “I am really thankful to NBS and the Nile Post for publishing my story. Now I am going to get treatment and stand again.”

Edson Ssali, Principal Assistant Secretary for Mubende Chief Administrative Officer and Rotary Club member, revealed that plans are underway to enroll Katushabe’s three older children in Kaweeri Public Model School.

“We are going to make sure these children resume their education,” he said.

Onesimus Kibaya, Mubende Regional Referral Hospital Administrator, confirmed that the hospital was ready to provide care.

“We have the experts here, and Katushabe is going to be managed with care,” he said, cautioning patients against leaving treatment prematurely.

“Like in Katushabe’s case, she was once admitted here but left before completing treatment. I urge people to be patient with medical care,” he added.

Currently, Katushabe is admitted at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital under the full support of the Rotary Club of Mubende.

All donations toward her care are being received through Harriet Nampala on 0772 686454 / 0702 686454.
