The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, on Saturday presided over the 25th wedding anniversary celebrations of the Bishop of Kinkizi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dan Zoreka, and his wife, Mrs. Flora Zoreka, at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Nyakatare, in Kanungu District.
The Silver Jubilee thanksgiving service drew church leaders, government officials, and Christians from across the country.
In his sermon, Archbishop Kaziimba praised Bishop Zoreka’s remarkable journey of faith and ministry, describing him as a “Miracle Bishop.”
“I call Bishop Dan a ‘Miracle Bishop’ because he was elected on a Wednesday and consecrated on a Sunday. His record has not yet been broken,” Kaziimba said. “His testimony touched me deeply. God has lifted him from grass to grace. He is not only a good man but also a faithful servant of the Lord.”
Bishop Zoreka, who was consecrated on October 10, 2010, at the age of 48, became one of the youngest bishops in the province at the time. He was also the first clergyman elected bishop without holding the rank of canon. Before his consecration, he served as a lay reader, parish priest, and later diocesan health coordinator.
The Archbishop commended Christians in Kinkizi Diocese for their steadfast support, pointing to the renovation of St. Peter’s Cathedral as evidence of their commitment.
In his testimony, Bishop Zoreka reflected on 25 years of marriage and ministry, attributing his achievements to God’s providence and the unwavering support of his wife, family, and congregation.
Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, who attended the celebration, lauded Zoreka for his humility and unifying leadership.
“When Bishop Dan took over, the diocese was divided. He has since restored peace and overseen growth in membership and faith,” Mbabazi said, highlighting achievements such as the construction of permanent churches, the establishment of TALENT SACCO, a divinity college, and eco-tourism projects at Ngotho Island.
The service was attended by several bishops, including Prof. Sheldon Mwesigwa (Ankole), Amos Magezi (North-West Ankole), Reuben Kisembo (Ruwenzori), Godfrey Mbitse (Muhabura), Nathan Ahimbisibwe (South Ankole), and retired Bishop George Bagamuhunda (Kigezi), as well as political leaders and Christians from across the country.
