Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has reaffirmed the strength and appeal of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), attributing the party’s popularity to its consistency, internal unity, and transparent electoral processes.
Speaking on national television, Nabbanja highlighted the high demand for the NRM party card, noting that many Ugandans see it as a reliable route to political office, particularly Parliament.
“People fight for the NRM card because they are sure when they get it, it’s a smooth way to Parliament,” she stated.
The Prime Minister contrasted the NRM’s stability with the frequent fragmentation of other political parties in Uganda.
“With these other parties, when they encounter even small disagreements, especially during their meetings, they often form new political parties. That’s how we moved from NUP to DP and many others,” she explained.
Nabbanja also urged political aspirants to be resilient, advising them not to view electoral defeat as the end of their public service journey.
“Fellow Ugandans, if you fail in the elections, it’s not the end. Go and do something else,” she said.
On matters of electoral integrity, she reassured party members and aspirants that NRM’s internal electoral processes are credible and free from interference.
“NRM’s Electoral Commission is very clear and independent, so candidates shouldn’t worry about it,” she emphasized.
Her remarks come as political parties across Uganda prepare for the 2026 general elections, with several already conducting internal primaries and consultations.
Nabbanja’s comments are likely to spark renewed debate over party governance, electoral credibility, and the role of opposition politics in Uganda’s democracy.
