The territorial Police in the Wamala Region have urged National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders in Mubende to follow legal procedures when organizing fundraising drives.

Earlier on Friday,  Police blocked a NUP fundraising event that was scheduled to take place at the party offices in Kirungi Cell, Mubende Municipality.

Speaking to the Nile Post, the Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, explained the reason for the blockade.

“The reason Police blocked the fundraising event is because security was not informed, and neither was the Office of the Resident District Commissioner. Therefore, it could not proceed without permission,” Kawala said.

Kawala advised NUP members to follow proper guidelines by officially notifying the Police.

“If they want their fundraising event to take place, they should write to the Police, and we are ready to provide security,” she added.

The NUP Chairperson for Mubende, Pafuladito Kyeyune, earlier expressed frustration over the RDC’s advice to write to the Inspector General of Police.

“It’s a delay tactic. We all know these people will not grant us permission to organize our events. But it will all be well in a new Uganda,” Kyeyune said.

The Police’s interception of the NUP fundraising drive has left many party members with unanswered questions about whether they will be allowed to gather and raise funds for the party in the future.
