The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has condemned what it terms the genocidal acts committed by the State of Israel in the Gaza Strip, accusing it of deliberately targeting civilians through mass killings, starvation, and indiscriminate bombings.
Addressing journalists after a weekly National Management Committee meeting at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) headquarters in Old Kampala, Mubaje described Israel’s actions as driven by a "dangerous Zionist ideology" that seeks the total destruction of lives and property in occupied Palestine.
“These actions do not spare even children, women, the elderly, or the disabled. The world is witnessing an unprecedented massacre of innocent civilians,” said Mubaje.
He revealed that during a recent executive meeting of the World Council of Religious Leaders which included Jewish Rabbis a resolution was unanimously passed condemning Israel’s ongoing campaign in Gaza.
The leaders specifically denounced the mass killing of Palestinians and what they termed the “deliberate starvation” of survivors following continuous aerial bombardments.
The Mufti called on the international community to act decisively, warning that the ongoing atrocities threaten global peace and undermine the principles of humanity.
He also announced that preparations are underway for the upcoming World Gathering of Religious Leaders, which will be hosted in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of the Government of the United Arab Emirates.
The summit is expected to bring together over 1,000 religious leaders from around the world. The last gathering was held in Germany with support from the German government.
In a related development, the UMSC’s 2nd Deputy Mufti, Dr. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, has returned from a working visit to Saudi Arabia, where he held talks with top officials of the Muslim World League (MWL) in Makkah, aimed at strengthening international religious cooperation.
