As Uganda gears to join the rest of the world to commemorate the World population day, the government has confirmed its preparedness for this event scheduled for 11th July 2025 at Busaana Town council grounds in Kayunga district.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Promoting population health and well being through the parish development model” and aims to assert the government's commitment to uplift the 33% households that are still engaged in subsistence agriculture to join the money economy.

As part of this year’s celebration, the government has committed to undertake some activities which include community outreaches for cancer screening, a regional leaders dialogue and equipping of health centers with the necessary tools.

There shall also be planting of trees, training of girls to make reusable sanitary towels among other activities.

“ We shall be undertaking some activities to mark world population day. We shall hold health camps and even donate mama kits to various health centers. We will install some equipment for some health centers in Kayunga. We shall also have blood donation drives among other activities “ - Mugendawala Hamis, a senior officer in the ministry of finance said.

Mr Amos Lugoloobi, State Min for Finance has as well boasted that Uganda has made tremendous strides as we commemorate World Population day. He notes improvements in population growth, life expectancy, maternal and infant mortality reduction as well as access to the internet.

The guest of honour for this year’s world population day is President Museveni who is expected to commission the construction of the vital Kayunga - Galilaya road as part of the day’s events.

The World Population Day is observed annually on July 11th to raise awareness about global population issues. The day is a reminder of the impact of population growth on development and the environment, emphasising the need for solutions to challenges like poverty, gender inequality, and access to healthcare.
