Amina Abiriga, the widow of former Arua Municipality Member of Parliament Ibrahim Abiriga, is seeking a personal audience with President Museveni over what she describes as long-unfulfilled government pledges made following her husband's assassination.
Amina says several commitments were made in the aftermath of the June 8, 2018 killing in Matugga, but little has materialized to support her and the family since then.
“I am requesting to meet the President so I can share my situation directly with him,” she said. “We have waited patiently, but the support that was promised has not come.”
The late Abiriga, a prominent and outspoken member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), was widely known for his loyalty to the ruling party.
He was famous for adorning yellow suits and had at one point painted his car yellow - the ruling party's official colour.
His assassination alongside his bodyguard drew national shock and an outpouring of sympathy, with senior government officials—including the President—pledging support to his family and promising justice.
Now, six years later, Amina says she is still grappling with unresolved challenges and hopes that a direct meeting with the President will reignite efforts to honour those commitments.
No official response has yet been issued regarding her renewed appeal.
