Lawyers Petition Police Over Attempts to Evict Soroti NGO
 In a May, 6 petition, Kania and Ali Advocates and Solicitors say the NGO has occupied the said premises Plot 23 at Soroti-Harridas Road since February 2009

Lawyers representing Soroti Development Association and NGOs Network(SODANN), a human rights NGO based in Soroti over attempts to evict it from its premises in Soroti City.

In a May, 6 petition, Kania and Ali Advocates and Solicitors say the NGO has occupied the said premises Plot 23 at Soroti-Harridas Road since February 2009 as tenants but are being threatened with eviction  by one Michael Erionu Aremet.

“It has come to our notice that one Erionu Aremet Micheal is falsely claiming ownership of the property and has enlisted the aid of certain lawyers and vagabonds from Soroti city to interfere with our client's quiet possession of its said premises,” the lawyers say in the petition.

They say that Erionu has since put the property up for sale illegally yet there is a current dispute over ownership of the said property in the Soroti High Court.

According to the lawyers, it is unlawful for them to be threatened with eviction when the matter is still in court while its decision might go either way.

They say they have since reported a case of criminal trespass against  Erionu and his lawyer Francis Ajum under reference number 48/05/05/ 2025.

“ We call upon the Uganda Police to apprehend all persons trespassing on our client's premises with a view to their prosecution for trespass to land,” the lawyers said, noting that Erionu seeks to unlawfully selling the said property.
