FACT-CHECK: Misleading Video Claims Chaos in Kawempe By-Election

A video circulating on X (formerly Twitter) falsely claims to show chaos during the recently concluded Kawempe North by-election.

The footage depicts people running for safety with gunshots heard in the background, supposedly in Kawempe.

The same video has been widely shared on Facebook, further amplifying the claim.

However, an investigation by DisMis FakeNews reveals that the video was not filmed in Kawempe.

Using Google Reverse Image Search, we traced keyframes of the video to Kenya, not Uganda.

A post on X, shared days before the claim emerged, confirms the footage was recorded in Roysambu, a suburb of Nairobi, Kenya.

Additionally, a Google Maps search identified housing structures similar to those in the video, further verifying its true location.

A TikTok username, @stanley.mwangi32, appears on the video, and a search of the account uncovered more content related to the Roysambu incident.

Verdict: FALSE and MISLEADING.

The video was taken in Kenya, not Uganda, and is unrelated to the Kawempe North by-election.
