Youth leaders across the country have launched a nationwide sensitization campaign to address the growing misuse of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds.
The initiative aims to educate young people, particularly at the grassroots level, on the proper utilization and management of PDM resources.
Brenda Kiconco, Secretary for Youth Female Affairs at the National Youth Council, noted that reports of PDM funds being misused by youth in various parts of the country have hindered the program’s intended impact on community development.
She explained that youth leaders have developed a comprehensive sensitization strategy, including workshops, community outreaches, and TV talk shows, to combat the issue.
“As youth leaders, we are engaging district leaders from the village level up to the district level to find strategies that will help young people utilize PDM funds effectively,” Kiconco said.
She emphasized the importance of guiding young beneficiaries before they receive the funds, ensuring they have clear business ideas that can uplift them from poverty.
“We are working to ensure that young people understand the purpose of these funds. Before they receive the money, they should have a viable project that will improve their livelihoods,” she added.
The Parish Development Model is a government initiative designed to promote economic development and improve livelihoods at the parish level.
It provides funding for community-driven projects such as agriculture, infrastructure development, and entrepreneurship.
As the sensitization campaign gains momentum, youth leaders remain optimistic that it will lead to a reduction in fund misuse.
By promoting transparency, accountability, and community participation, they hope to enhance the effectiveness of the PDM program and ensure it benefits the intended recipients.
