Ajarova’s second term ends
The development come as UTB CEO, Lilly Ajarova’s second term is set to end on March, 5.
She was first appointed UTB CEO in January 2019 and by then she was serving as the Executive Director of the Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
After expiry of her first three-year term, Ajarova’s contract was extended for another three years that will elapse in March.
Ajarova, a Ugandan conservationist and tourism expert is described by many as a bubbly woman who has tourism and conservation at heart, considering the work she previously put in, including transformation of Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
At UTB, she is credited for promotion of Uganda as one of the best tourism destinations in the world, with Bradt Guides, a leading independent travel publisher ranking Uganda fourth among the world’s top tourism destinations.
During Ajarova’s tenure, Uganda has positioned itself as one of the best destination for meetings, incentives, exhibitions and conferences( MICE) in Africa, moving from 13th in 2019 when she took over at UTB to now 7th.
She has also over seen the new brand identity for the country, Explore Uganda, the Pearl of Africa that seeks to promote Uganda as the best destination for tourism in the world.
The new brand identity seeks to re-emphasize Uganda’s rare and precious range of tourism attractions that can all be found in one destination and based on pillars of sustainability, clarity, consistency, collaboration and empowerment and Ajarova has been at the fore front of marketing it.
Under her tenure, tourism revenues for the country have also soared but the country has also tapped into its missions abroad to help promote tourism back home.
Recently, UTB launched a mobile application to enhance tourism and travel experience for national and foreign tourists to destinations in Uganda.
Whereas Ajarova is still eligible for another term as UTB CEO, it is not yet known whether she will seek to continue serving in the position.
