Renowned Ugandan artist Patrick Mulwana, popularly known as Alien Skin, appeared in Makindye Court today to face three additional charges related to causing bodily harm, adding to an earlier theft case against him.
The charges were read by Magistrate Esther Adikini.
The new accusations stem from a confrontation last week at Nsambya Hospital, where Alien Skin and his associates allegedly injured three hospital staff members: Dr Saed Matovu, Alex Odong, and Anthony Muyanda.
The incident reportedly began when Alien Skin and his entourage were denied access to documents concerning their late friend, Joram Tumwesigye, who had died following a motorcycle accident. Both Alien Skin and his bodyguard, Julius Mugabi, pleaded not guilty to these charges.
Despite heavy rain, large crowds of Alien Skin’s supporters gathered outside the court in a show of solidarity.
The court premises were cleared by security forces, restricting access to journalists and individuals directly involved in the case.
Inside the courtroom, Alien Skin’s legal team, led by Precious Nahabwe, sought bail for the artist. His mother, Juliet Nanyanzi, his younger brother, Nsubuga, and Alia, a journalist from Ssanyuka TV, were presented as sureties.
The defense argued that Alien Skin and his co-accused have familial responsibilities and need time to mourn their deceased friend and attend his funeral.
They also expressed a willingness to negotiate a settlement with the complainants.
The state prosecutor opposed the bail application, raising concerns about Alien Skin’s influence and the possibility of interference with investigations.
Magistrate Esther Adikini scheduled the ruling on the bail application for Thursday, November 28, 2024.
In a related matter, the court also mentioned the theft case against Alien Skin. His lawyers informed the court of an agreement with the complainant, Salim Mubiru.
However, Magistrate Adikini postponed the case to December 9, awaiting formal documentation of the settlement. Mubiru’s absence in court further delayed proceedings.
After the court session, police escorted Alien Skin and his co-accused under heavy security.
Rumors of his alleged abduction quickly circulated among his supporters, but his legal team dismissed these claims, expressing optimism about the bail decision in the upcoming hearing.
For now, Alien Skin remains in custody as his legal battles unfold, with public attention closely following the high-profile case.
