According to Cerinah Nalwoga Kasirye, the founder of Trillion Looks Store, the organisers of the Afri Art fashion show, the award is a recognition of their efforts in promoting African culture through art, fashion and crafts.
“Through this annual event, we empower local artisan designers who make ethical and environmentally friendly fashion, art and craft products out of bark cloth, sisal, pyrus, cotton among others locally sourced here in Uganda. The products made and showcased carry a rich cultural heritage rooted in the African culture,” Nalwoga said.
She added,”This fashion show has for four years been at the fore front of promoting Ugandan local artisans and artisanal products both locally and internationally. It is also a great initiative that brings together people from different backgrounds and fosters a sense of community and belonging. “
