FDC Undecided on Participating in IRCU National Dialogue

The Forum for Change Democratic ( FDC) party is uncertain if it will be part of the national dialogue process that is being organized by the Inter Religious Council Uganda (IRCU) and the Elders Forum of Uganda. This followed an intense two-hour engagement between the two that ended with no agreement.

The FDC seven-man team arrived at the inter religious council at 10am. The meeting held in the board room was closed to the media.

The FDC party President Patrick Oboi Amuriat later told journalists that while the meeting was fruitful the party could not confirm whether it will be part of the process or not.

Instead, Amuriat said he would return to the party's headquarters in Najjanankumbi and brainstorm with other members on the way forward.

Amuriat revealed that they will return to IRCU one month with written concerns that need to be addressed before FDC can participate in the national dialogue.

Among FDC concerns are that the agenda of this meeting needs to be known, who is going to be involved, who will be the chair of the meeting, and who will put in place the outcome of the meeting.

FDC national Chairman Wasswa Birigwa also noted that while the initiative is worthwhile, FDC is not party to power sharing as has been earlier communicated.

Birigwa said that Uganda needs a transitional government and not power sharing.

Retired Justice James Ogoola however insisted that the national dialogue is aimed at addressing root causes of conflict and instability that are still dominant on the Ugandan polity.
