The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has refuted claims that Kabaka Mutebi's return was due to a denial of visa extension in Namibia.
Premier Mayiga clarified that the royal court had always planned for Kabaka's return on July 21, coinciding with the three-month medical leave advised by his doctors.
the Kabaka returned to Uganda on Monday morning, ending months of speculation about his health and the reason for his stay in Namibia.
The king arrived at Entebbe International Airport shortly after midnight and was received by a delegation led by the Katikkiro and the Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda.
Also present were royals Nnaalinnya Lubuga Agnes Nabaloga, Prince Jjunju Kiweewa, and Nnaalinnya Victoria Nkinzi.
Addressing speculation
News of the Kabaka's return spread quickly, fueled by social media rumours about a visa issue.
Mayiga addressed these rumors directly, stating that Namibia offers visa-free entry to Ugandans, further debunking the extension claims.
The Buganda Kingdom officially apologised to the Namibian government for the actions of some individuals who disrupted the King's privacy while he was receiving treatment in the southern African country.
While the Kabaka's return coincides with preparations for his coronation anniversary, Mayiga noted that a decision on his attendance will be made in consultation with medical professionals.
The coronation programme itself is likely to remain unchanged.
Kabaka Mutebi, 69, has received medical treatment abroad for some time, primarily in Germany. His recent stay in Namibia was for specialised care at a recommended facility.
