FUFA publishes List of owners of Uganda Premier League teams
A number of fans have been left in shock after seeing the owners of their favourite Uganda Premier League clubs.
On Monday, the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) published a list of owners of the 16 Ugandan topflight teams in the media.
“Arising out of the need for clarity and openness, FUFA hereby publishes the 16 first division club owners as registered,” reads in part the notice by signed by Edgar Watson, the FUFA Chief Executive Officer.
“If no objection is received by 30th July 2018 at 1700hours, FUFA will proceed to consider club ownership for eligible clubs to be licenced 2018-2019 season.”
The list owners published shows that former FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa owns 90 percent of the shares in Kitende based Vipers Sports Club, Thadeus Kitandwe and Haruna Koybe being the other shareholders.
The list also shows that Express is wholly owned by Bbaale Mugerwa with one hundred percent shares whereas FUFA spokesperson Hussein Ahmed with 10 percent shares and former SC Villa captain Bernard Muwanga(2%) are among the six owners of Mwereerwe based Bright Stars.
Eng. Simon Dujanga, the state minister for energy with 16 percent shares is among the owners of newly promoted Paidha Black Angels FC.
The publication has also indicated that Eng. Ben Misagga, Lusaka Commodities and one Moses Musazi own record league champions SC Villa but FUFA did not indicate the percentage of ownership each of the three has in the team.
Fans shocked
Meanwhile, a number of fans have taken to social media to express shock over the new revelation in regards to the club ownership.
“You mean all along Express FC is owned by an individual,” posted one Liberty Mbabazi on Facebook.
“This has completely shocked me. Even my hair is off the head.”
Mugisha Allan Landson expressed shock for Western Uganda youth Member of Parliament, Mwine Mpaka owning Mbarara City FC.
“But that young Western Uganda youth MP, where does he get the money to run that club,” Mugisha wondered on Facebook.
